SPONSORSHIP 2020

The friendly context:

You have all known for almost 15 years my passion for this magical country called Nepal. And love at first sight for the mountain panoramas was quickly replaced by my immense affection for this people so hospitable and with a heart of gold.

And my meeting with Bijay has totally transformed my existence. We have to learn from each other every day, like a continuous breath of life. Buddhism is an art of living and thinking for each gesture and word of the day.

I go to Nepal every year in October, to live with Bijay and his family.

Yeti Tamang Schools (YTS)

This association was created on 07/15/2016 with friends who have all stayed in Nepal, most of them for hiking.

Its purpose is to help the schooling of primary school children in Nepal. Its goal is therefore to collect funds which will then be reinvested in equipment and school projects.

It also facilitates sponsorships to help more particularly a child attending these secondary schools.

I suggest you sponsor a Nepalese schoolboy.

For reasons of French grammar, I will always speak below of "a schoolboy". This does not bode well for the choice, which will be either a boy or a girl.

The geographical context of the sponsorship:

The schoolboy comes from the village of Thulo Parsel, northeast of the capital Kathmandu.

The main means of access to this village is by bus, by road and then by tracks. The distance of 140 kilometers is covered in about 7h00…. depending on breakdowns and traffic.

This schoolboy finishes his class n ° 10 (= second class, in France).

In Nepal, the second level secondary school (Class 9 to Class 10) (= third and second class in France) has children aged 14 to 15.

The exam at the end of the 10th year is called School Leaving Certificate (SLC). It gives access to upper secondary education.

The SLC allows access to classes 11 and 12 (1st and final) at the end of which the pupil obtains a diploma (the +2) which allows him to enter a university.

It should be noted that the Nepalese public school has a very bad reputation in terms of the quality of education. The teachers there are very poorly paid, which is reflected in their motivations. Classes are generally overcrowded (often more than 50 students).

Repetition is so frequent that it sometimes takes more than ten years for a pupil to complete his primary education (class 5 = CM2 in France) in a public school. It is not uncommon to see much older children in lower grades.

Faced with this poor quality public education, private schools recruit the best teachers by offering them more attractive remuneration. As soon as they can afford it, Nepalese parents prefer to send their children to these private schools.

In Nepal, as in most countries in Asia, the school year begins in May and ends in late March or early April.

In 2020, like everywhere in the world, confinement is the rule and schools are closed. So the SEC review hasn't taken place yet… .. maybe in the summer of 2020 (but the government is still procrastinating!).

Our association got in touch with the headmaster of Pancha Kanya Higher Secondary School, Thulo Parsel school.

It was agreed in October 2019, when I met this principal, that he would send our association some files of students able to move to the next level.

In addition to this, you will need to know more about it.

Our educational project:

The educational project is to bring this schoolboy to Kathmandu.

He will thus be able to benefit from a much better school education, in a private school.

Upper secondary education concerns classes 11 and 12 (Première and Terminale, in France), for high school students aged 16 to 17.

A diploma is obtained again at the end of class 12.

Entry to the University can then be considered.

The cost of schooling:

The cost of sponsorship concerns tuition fees and ancillary costs (books, school supplies and notebooks).

This does not include the cost of transportation, the two uniforms, food and possible tutoring fees.

The high school student will be housed by a member of his family, in the capital: the villagers all know a relative living in Kathmandu (and the concept of family is still very broad in Asia).

For the 2020/2021 school year, the sum to be collected is: € 1,500.

The process of this sponsorship:

In Nepal, exam results are traditionally slow to arrive. This year, because of the pandemic,

these results could be known this summer.

At that time, the principal of the school of Thulo Parsel

will send to the association, through Bijay,

the files of a few successful students who,

lack of family funding, must stop their studies

or vegetate at school in the village.

YTS will carry, after examination, its choice on a schoolboy.

This child will then be informed and, after the agreement of his family,

he will come to settle in Kathmandu to enroll in a

private school and continue his studies with ardor.

YTS will send the money to Bijay to pay for the private college.

This project requires total trust between all stakeholders,

whether they are French or Nepalese.

These donations will be made in the name of the YTS association,

and will give rise to a tax reduction provided for by the

articles 200 and 238-bis of the General Tax Code

(tax ruling of January 26, 2018).

November 2020, the outcome of a sponsorship

YTS started in November 2020 to sponsor a student (Kamala)

from a school in a Tamang village, Thulo Parsel, 150 km from the

capital city.

After a brilliant school career, she successfully passed the

exams

for higher studies. His parents not having the means,

our association Yeti Tamang Schools covers the costs

school.
On 11/10/2020, Kamala was enrolled in the NIST Science School, at
Kathmandu.
She therefore moved and now lives with members of her
family, in the capital.
YTS will pay its annual school fees.
She is going to take courses by internet, pandemic obliges
The whole YTS team is proud to support Kamala in its

new life."

Our local representative Bijay will ensure the smooth running of the studies.

All donation is welcome. Thanks in advance.
